How To Buy Alcatraz Tickets When Sold Out

Some good news: there is an abundance of Day Tour tickets at the moment! As of late December, 2022, you can actually get next-day tickets for Alcatraz. I don't know how long this remarkable situation will last, but enjoy it! I have never seen this; they would normally be sold out months in advance at this point.
Important Change! CityExperiences has made a major change in their ticket sale procedures. For many years, they offered 50-100 tickets very early in the morning for same-day tickets for the Day Tours on sold-out days. That option is no longer available.
For years, visitors could line up super early at the ticket office to get a ticket for one of that day's Day Tours. It was a little desperate, but a great way to get a ticket when Alcatraz was sold out for weeks or months in advance.
In high season, the summer months, the tickets are often sold out a month or two in advance, but I've seen tickets pop up for a date one week in advance, in July, so it is possible if your timing is good.
During the high season, when they are running two evening sailings out to the island, they have about 20 standby tickets for sale (and around 10 tickets during the winter when there is only one evening tour).
Another way of getting Night Tour tickets. Now you can also find tours combining other attractions with the Alcatraz Night Tour. When the night tour is sold out, which it often is, you can check out some of the combo tours for night tour availability.
Even in winter, there's still a wait to get tickets for the night tours and the Behind the Scenes tours. The Night Tours tend to be sold out about 6 weeks in advance even in the slow season, and the Behind the Scenes tours about 2 weeks in advance.
But since people can print their own tickets from their own computers, dates and times could be easily altered, and when the ticket bar codes are scanned getting on the boat, they may not be for the right day or time (or the printout may be a duplicate already sold to someone else!).
Taking a ferry around Alcatraz when tickets are sold out is a fun alternative because these cruises usually take you beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, and sometimes out to AT&T Park if the Giants are playing a game.

Not really. The most budget-friendly way of getting to Alcatraz is by purchasing directly from Alcatraz Cruises. However, if the official Alcatraz tour is sold out, combo Alcatraz packages are the best way to buy Alcatraz tickets last minute. They offer great value because they allow you to visit multiple tourist destinations in the Bay Area.
Read below our suggestions for getting Alcatraz last minute tickets from other sources than the official website. You will learn what to do if Alcatraz tickets are sold out, how to book last minute tours including night tours and get useful travel tips.
A buddy and I are going to SF at the end of the month and all tours are sold out (day and night). You know if it's possible to get tickets anywhere in (ta && ta.queueForLoad ta.queueForLoad : function(f, g){document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', f);})(function(){ta.trackEventOnPage('postLinkInline', 'impression', 'postLinks-42290659', '');}, 'log_autolink_impression');Fisherman's Wharf while we're there, we really want to go
You can check tour consolidators (google = alcatraz) which will charge a premium or line up very early in the morning (like 6AM) for the very few tickets that are available day of ... and those tickets are for early morning tours.
I spoke to a family when I was in (ta && ta.queueForLoad ta.queueForLoad : function(f, g){document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', f);})(function(){ta.trackEventOnPage('postLinkInline', 'impression', 'postLinks-42291679', '');}, 'log_autolink_impression');San Francisco last week, who queued up for these tickets at 5 a.m. The husband joined the line at 5 and had to call his wife to bring the children down at about 6.30 to join the line so that they could all get tickets.
I found this post from sfimporter about two weeks before my trip to (ta && ta.queueForLoad ta.queueForLoad : function(f, g){document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', f);})(function(){ta.trackEventOnPage('postLinkInline', 'impression', 'postLinks-51348885', '');}, 'log_autolink_impression');San Francisco while searching how to find last minute tickets to alcatraz. They were sold out, including combo tours. It was my 10 y/o son's most anticipated part of the trip, so my family of 6 woke up at 4 am and went for it! We were in line at 545 am, behind 21 others. I'm happy to report we all made the trip to the island, an it was well worth the sacrifice on sleep.
I got tickets at -sightseeing.us/nighttour.html for their all loops bus tour including Alcatraz. Is $94 pp, expensive, but since I am not keen on lining up at 4am, much better option for me. They had tickets starting 3 days out when the regular tickets are currently 3 weeks plus sold out.
Alcatraz Cruises is the official National Park Service concessioner and exclusive provider of ferry services to Alcatraz Island. Our tickets include roundtrip ferry transportation, the audio tour inside the Cellhouse, and all other programs on Alcatraz. Tickets purchased directly from us are inclusive of tax and there are no booking or processing fees when booking tickets at www.alcatrazcruises.com. We guarantee the lowest price on the tickets.
Another option when Alcatraz tickets are sold out, is to make the most of your San Francisco vacation by booking a 6-hour combo adventure and enjoy a private, guided and personalized tour of San Francisco, sailing around Alcatraz Island with full narration and amazing photo opportunities of Alcatraz Island from all directions -francisco/ferry-bay-cruise
The benefit of buying these tickets is that you have the opportunity to save a little money vs. buying these tickets separately. All of these tickets are sold through tour companies, so they do the work to set everything up for you.
You can also look at combo tickets, which give you a little more time to book your dates. Tour companies are given an allotment of tickets to sell and most people purchase these much closer to their date of travel. They are also a great place to look for sold out dates.
I get emails all the time from people looking for tickets for Alcatraz Prison tours on days that are sold out on the official website. Once those are sold out, there are no places I'd recommend booking individual tickets. However, my secret to solving this issue is to look for and book a combo tour (package) that includes other attractions or activities as well as Alcatraz tickets.
There are a few considerations you'll want to look at when booking your tickets for Alcatraz Prison tours. The warmest months in San Francisco are September and October. This is the best time to visit the island as the main Cellblock is a little warmer than the rest of the year.
That being said, if you are going down this route and do have the time, I still think the combo tickets I mention in section #2 are a better option when it comes to value for money, offering access to Alcatraz and other attractions of San Francisco at the same time.
Absolutely yes, tickets to Alcatraz sell out super fast, so you should buy them at least 2 months in advance during high season (June, July & August), when the attraction gets super crowded, or 2 weeks in advance during the rest of the year
Otherwise, if tickets there are sold out you can check out other tour combos like Alcatraz visit + cruise, the Alcatraz visit + hop on hop off bus, or the Alcatraz + San Francisco Tour giving you access to Alcatraz combined with other attractions or activities.
It is important to know that tickets to Alcatraz Island sell out fast! You should book your tour as soon as possible to avoid sold-out tickets. Tickets are made available about 90 days in advance.
Anyways, we wanted to go on the first Alcatraz cruise of the day for next Monday (June 5) but it sold out before we could all purchase tickets (bascially splitting up our group of 8). Is there a possiblitiy of buying tickets (perhaps a waiting list or a line we can wait in) on the day of the cruise even though it is sold out online
We didn't book our Alcatraz tickets before we arrived in SF and like you found that they were sold out. However, they DO keep a number of tickets on hold for sale each morning. You have to get up and be down at the ticket booth for around 7.00am. They then sell the tickets on a first come first serve basis. Each member of your group has to go. You can't send one person to buy 8 tickets! Get there first thing and I don't think you'll have a problem. We were one of the first in line and there was a huge line behind us and it seemed that everyone managed to get a ticket.
Each day, a limited number of tickets for San Francisco Alcatraz tours are sold. Since they are always in demand, getting Alcatraz tickets is not easy. During peak season, they can sell out weeks (or months) in advance.
I'm seeing several alcatraz tickets available on stubhub, but I've read that the only way to get tickets after they've sold out is through a combo tour, or to go to the warf at like 5 am to stand in line and possibly buy the day-of tickets they set aside. Has anyone bought alcatraz tickets through stubhub before What was your experience with it
BUT, I'd be leery of stubhub since the Alcatraz operators have the right to request ID before boarding, and if you're not the person named on the ticket as the buyer, your tickets will be confiscated. (It's not legal to resell Alcatraz tickets. The 3rd party vendors who do so must give the buyers' names to Alcatraz in advance, and must turn back any unsold tickets 3 or 4 days in advance.) 59ce067264
